Georgia drew 11-11 with Portugal but thanks to their first leg points they win through to France 2007.  Georgia will now face Argentina, France, Ireland and Namibia in pool’D’, a real tough ask with probably their only chance being a win against Namibia.

Georgia beat Portugal by 17-3 at home. This win gives them the early advantage in the play-off final for Europe’s third automatic qualifying place in France next year. Portugal will need to win in Lisbon on the 25th November by more than 14 points if they are to deny Georgia a place in pool ‘D’.

We favour Georgia to overcome Portugal and reach France 2007 as Europe 3. Georgia finish second in the other Round 5 pool behind Romania having beaten Spain 37-23. They now face Portugal on the 11th and 25th November with the winner progressing as Europe 3 and the loser into the repechage.

The sides playing of for Europe 3 will be known after the 28th October. Whoever wins in the Spain v Georgia and Portugal V Russia games will be the sides who go forward to the Europe 3 play-off game.  We favour Georgia and Russia to progress though it will be a tight call.

Italy’s opponents for the round 5 RWC 2007 qualification starting in October 2006 are becoming clearer. They will play Portugal and either Ukraine or Russia, whilst in pool B Romania will play Georgia and either Spain or the Czech Republic.
