Tonga Reach France 2007 Via Repecharge

This time round Tonga played eight matches to qualify, finishing 3rd in their Oceania Rugby World Cup group, behind Samoa and Fiji, Tonga had to get though the backdoor route of the Repechage. Cook Islands were first up, easily overcome in the two legs, then it was Korea following their second place in Asian qualifying. Tonga won through convincingly 85-3 and take their place yet again in the finals.
RWC 2007 Could Tonga Gain Win 3
Tonga have two Rugby World Cup game wins under their belt one against the Ivory Coast in South Africa (1991) the other a much more creditible victory was against Italy in 1999. 2003 saw them beaten in every pool game though they did run Wales close only losing 20-27.
Tongan The Friendly Isles
Tonga is another pacific island nation, stretching over 169 volcanic islands. Known as the friendly isles a name given to them when Captain Cook visited however, as the other Polynesian rugby teams, they start their matches with their own war dance, the Tongans is called "sipi-tau" a sight which many teams would not call friendly.
Tonga have new shirts for this years Cup. The shirt has changed considerably from previous versions the predominant colour is still red with white side, but the sleeves now sport attractive patterns in white they certainly are distinctive. Tonga In Pool 'A'
Tonga have always struggled with a lack of organisation in defence and at set pieces, especially in the pack. The qualfying matches against Fiji and Samoa showed this again, but the games against Cook Islands showed more promise. We do not see how they can proceed out of Pool A as the only game they have any chance of winning on present form is against the USA. With losses against England, South Africa and Samoa.
