Uruguay faqiled as Repecharge 1 Qualifiers
Qualification for the 2007 Rugby World Cup was too much for Uruguay as they lost narrowly to Portugal in the repecharge final 1 having previously lost out to the USA who took the third America's place. This would have been their third appearance and they will have to wait to improve their record of achiving at least one win in the finals.
Uruguay's New Coach
Uruguays most famous rugby playing son Diego Ormaechea led Los Teros out in their first Rugby World Cup match in 1999. He also scored their first Rugby World Cup try in Uruguays first world cup win against Spain. Now the 47 year old, who clocked up 64 caps as a number 8, is coach of the Uruguayan national side. He is proud of his countries record as the best side in South America behind the ever dominant Argentina.
